Our first event!

A big thank you to all of the vendors and people involved in organizing our first ever event.  It was such a special and warm evening, on a rainy Vancouver night. And thanks to everyone who stopped by and took a little something home with them to remember us by....

Sheryl Zentner of Any Spun Thread styled the window display. Thanks Sheryl!

The Shanti Uganda Society

We are pleased to welcome the Shanti Uganda Society, a non-profit working in Uganda who run programs for women about holistic health, birthing, nutritional health, living with HIV/AIDS, as well as income generating initiatives.  Some of these programs include...

Beading and Textile groups
Safe Drinking Water Initiative
 Community Garden Project
Birth House and Learning Centre
Midwifery Education

Volunteers from Shanti Uganda will be selling amazing handcrafted beads and textiles made by the women from these programs.

"Our women's group hand makes beautiful traditional Ugandan beaded jewelry and textiles and 100% of the proceeds from the sales goes towards Shanti Uganda. Each piece of fairly traded Shanti Uganda jewellery was handmade with love by one of the 22 women in our Women’s Income Generating Group. The jewellery was created by hand-rolling a long strip of recycled paper over a pin to create the hole, then varnished and fastened with a clasp. Each piece is unique and proceeds go directly to the women to help them accomplish their goals. The Shanti Uganda Society has carried out training programs for members of our Income Generating Training Program. Each woman is HIV positive and is a grandmother taking care of multiple grandchildren, a widow, or experiencing extreme poverty. Upon graduation, the women receive a certificate, the supplies needed to begin her craft, and ongoing support and education. Your purchase helps the Shanti Uganda Society improve the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of communities impacted by war, poverty and HIV/AIDS in Uganda. "

Profile on Jody Kramer

Jody Kramer is a local Vancouver lady who spends her days in animation-land. I visited her in her little studio above the Gene Cafe and she whipped up the cute drawings for the Little Something logo (see the blog banner above).  Thanks Jody!

Check out Jody's amazing animation work! Home is Where the Food Is is about local food, made for the 100-Mile Diet Society

The Visit was made with the NFB, directed by Lisa Jackson, and edited by Hart Snider. It's about a UFO landing on the Ahtahkakoop Reserve in Saskatchewan. The audio is from a real documentary interviews with Barry and Kimowan Ahenakew.
